National Railway Museum Light Competition

Below are my favourite images from last years National Railway Museum's Light Competition.

In 2009 they invited students to come along and light the locomotives on display in the museum. The subsequent photos are now in a flickr gallery. The lighting brings some real feeling and nostalgia to the static display, and as a regular visitor it's great to see them in quite literally a different light.

In 2010 they doing it again, but this time it's open to the public, so if fancy joining this years date is 30th October.

A Creative/Scientific View of UK Cities using Geotagging

Eric Fisher has produced a set of images of well-known cities using geotagging data.

Below are the UK cities in the list, but there are many others from around the world including; New York, Sydney & Paris.

Using geotagging data from Flickr, Eric has managed to produce a map of the city just from the dots of where images where taken. Also the dots have been split between tourists (red) and locals (blue), so it's possible to easily see the tourist attractions within the cities. Yellow dots represent images from people who it is unknown whether they are local or tourists.

Within London it is easy to see the outline of the Thames and the bridges that cross it.

The UK cities covered include: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Durham, Edinburgh. Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester & Oxford.

Visit Eric Fisher - Local and Tourists Flickr set for the full size images.

Beautiful Autumn Colours

My favourite time of year is Autumn. I find the colours beautiful, warm and rich. I got married in the Autumn and 1 of my favourite pictures is my wife and I stood in a clearing with the golden browns and greens on the trees and covering the floor.

Therefore it was great to see this Blog post on SmashApps.org showing some fantastic examples of Autumn photography. Below are some of my favourite, but please click on the link to see all of them.
